4형식 동사

4형식 동사는 간접목적어(에게)와 직접목적어(을/를)을 아무 전치사 없이 나란히 취하는 동사이다. 

간접목적어를 직접목적어 뒤로 보낼 때 붙이는 전치사에 따라 다음과 같이 분류한다. 

 

▶to를 붙이는 동사

pass, owe, give, send, bring, show, sell 등

ex)

I gave her the book. = I gave the book to her. 

He brought me a towel. = He brought a towel to me. 

She kindly showed me the way. = She kidly showed the way to me. 

I owe him 10 dollars. = I owe 10 dollars to him. 

 

▶for을 붙이는 동사 (사줘요, 만들어줘요...)

cook, order, build, get, find, buy, make 등

ex)

Father bought me a watch = Father bought a watch for me. 

He built his parents a cottage. = He built a cottage for his parents. 

Susan ordered me a beef steak. = Susan ordered a beef steak for me. 

 

▶of를 붙이는 동사

ask, inquire 등

I asked him a question.  = I asked a question of him.

May I ask you a favor? = May I ask a favor of you? (외우기)

 

▶'~에게' 앞에 반드시 to를 붙이는 동사

say, explain, suggest, confess, introduce, admit, propose, describe, mention (외우기)

Mary introduced me her sister. (x)

->Mary introduced her sister to me. (o)

He described me about Mount Kumgang. (x)

-> He described Mount Kumgang to me. (o)

He admitted (to me) that he was wrong. 

He suggested (to me) that we (should) visit her in the hospital.
